Why an engineer ended up doing SEO
I got tired of marketing built on vibes.
For 8+ years I built mission-critical software for institutions including the NNPC, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Army, environments where a wrong number isn't a rounding error, it's a disaster. That work trains a particular instinct: trust the data, not the opinion.
When I moved into growth, that instinct kept getting offended. I'd see businesses with beautiful, expensive websites pulling steady traffic and almost no customers, while SEO "experts" sold retainers on best-practice guesswork and reported impressions instead of revenue. The fix was obvious to an engineer: point the site at the high-intent searches buyers actually make, prove the opportunity in live data first, and rank every fix by what it's worth in dollars.
